- זָרַז(reduplic. of זר, v. זרר; cmp. אזר) to be strong, vigorous, quick, v. זָרַד.Part. pass. זָרוּז, v. זָרִיז. Pi. זֵירֵז 1) to strengthen, to make active and ready, to instigate. Pes.89a כדי לזַרְזָן … קאמר he said so in order to awaken their emulation in religious acts. Nidd.31a; Yoma 47a זֵירַזְתָּנִי, v. זָרָה IPart. pass. מְזֹורָז a) strong, vigorous. Nidd. l. c.; Snh.70b; a. e., v. לָבַן II.b) active, zealous to do good, valiant. Macc.23a אין מְזָרְזִין אלא למְזֹורָזִין Ar. (ed. מזורז; some ed. מזרז, corr. acc.) only the strong-minded it is worth encouraging; Yalk. Deut. 937; Sifré Num. 1 למְזֹורָזִים; a. e. 2) (with ב) to admonish, be severe. Tanḥ. Korah 6 התחיל מְזָרֵז בהן (Num. R. s. 18 לדבר להם) he began to speak to them earnestly. Hithpa. הִזְדָּרֵז, Nithpa. נִזְדָּרֵז 1) to be alert, zealous, conscientious. Pesik.
